Whitewater Lake - 07/12/2008
July 15th, 2008Well I made it on Whitewater Lake this past weekend, a lake that I have fished on a lot. Needless to say, it was different than I had ever seen it. The lake is typically overgrown with weeds (not saying this is a bad thing
), the water level is up around a foot yet from all of the rain we’ve had and the weeds are few and far between. To make it worse, a series of storms had moved through in the 24 hours leading up to us being out on the lake.
We had a mini-pike hit a Rapala X-Rap and that was about the extent of it. Besides actually tying my shoe onto the line, we threw about everything we had. It was either a terrible case of the “wrong bait at the wrong time” and we should have just stuck it out with a certain lure, or the fish were just tougher than ever to catch out there.
Hopefully, sooner than later, I will get a chance to go and redeem myself, not to often that I get skunked like that (yes, that means that I am not counting the 7-inch Pike). And the next time, I’m going to remember the Bug Spray so I don’t get mauled at sunset, and can stay out later.
